The 2016 Tacoma is looking good to fulfill my predictions about the newest truck being the best truck.

Kinja'd!!!

I have it on good authority, from someone who would know, that its going to be good... as in better than canyorado good. Without revealing too much information about my source...and the fact that there isn't too much to reveal...I have more confidence that Toyota is serious about this new little truck and the chances are that its not just a mild refresh.

I tried to get more, but they are obviously pretty tight lipped about the whole thing, in fact there is no information here at all other than optimism that they've done their work. They did admit to me that there is still much do to before it goes on sale, so don't expect too many details on mileage and payloads and whatnot, at least not at first.

Encouraging though, and with the new Frontier coming, its sounds like its shaping up to be a great time to be a midsized truck buyer.

And here I got excited about actual edible tacos.

I have to say, I'm excited to see it. The Taco and 4-Runner are two Toyotas I'd seriously consider buying. And judging on just the teaser shots, it'll be a pretty good looking truck.

I'm guessing this means a new 4-Runner is in the works as well. They're on the same platform right?

they are not on the same platform, I suspect the 4runner will get the real refresh in 2-3 model years. Faster if gas stays cheap.

From what I've seen, though, it's getting Toyota's familial "angry eyes" headlights, which is... yeesh.

I really liked the little front clip refresh it got in... 2012? but I feel like a truck shouldn't try to copy the design language from passenger cars. It'd be like a lumberjack trying to wear a Tiara.

now I didn't say it would LOOK good...

My source didn't have anything to say about looks, only that its on track to beat the Colorado.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if it ends up being more than just a style refresh. I'd also love to see some concessions to the off-road crowd, but given how few legitimate buyers they'd get out of that I'm doubtful. Most of the serious off-road crowd buys used for obvious reasons, and the dudebros who just want to show off their yoloswags or whatever don't care because they'll just drop bracket and block it and put 32" plastichrome wheels with $15 "mud" tires on it and...

I should stop before I have a stroke or something.

Actually the use rate for Tacoma's off road (actually using them off road) is very high compared to other vehicles. Also, from the sound of it, its more than a styling exercise.

I'd believe that, but I think most of that is secondhand market, which doesn't directly benefit the manufacturer.

I have nothing to go on in that regard other than first hand experience, but everyone I know who bought one new uses it off road.

I read your headline and got really excited, thinking it was amazing new Taco Bell creation, then I realized Tacoma. Sad face.
